HMS Britannia, A Teak Inkstand, 'Made from timber removed from HMS Britannia, cadet training ship at Dartmouth, 1869-1905'.

Launched in 1860 as a 121 Gun Line-Of-Battle Three Decker, HMS Britannia started life as HMS Prince of Wales and was renamed Britannia in 1869. She was moored in Dartmouth from 1869 - 1905 as a cadet training ship. The future king George V was a naval cadet on HMS Britannia. The ship was notorious for bullying and the future king was not spared. She was broken up in Blyth, circa 1916.

Approximate weight is 1.256 kilos.

Approximate dimensions are 28 cm length, 20 cm width and 10.4 cm height.

In good condition with some wear to the capstan pierced detail. Both inkwell covers are sprained and do not sit flush on their bodies. The ceramic liners appear fixed in place and  have not been removed to examine. The teak with age related wear and light cracks/splits commensurate with salvaged timber. The left hand inkwell has a stable crack to the body.
