Late Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Armorial Serving Tray. Features foliate decorated twin handles & borders. Raised on four Rococo moulded feet. The main surface of the tray features later foliate chasing whilst the centre displays the armorial.
The marital armorial is the family Butler - Danvers, Earl of Lanesborough impaling Bishop. This relates to the marriage of George John Butler-Danvers, the 5th Earl of Lanesborough (1794 - 1866). The family seat was at Swithland Hall, near Loughborough in Leicesetershire. A full copy of the heraldry report will be given to the buyer.
In good repaired condition. There have been a number of repair patches and strengthening joins over the years. The tray is ready to use and has suffered hardly any plate loss. One handle is inclined slightly higher than the other.
