Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Dickens Daunt, Central India Horse, British Indian Army, Silver Hip Flask. The flask has a crest and motto to one side for the Daunt family.

Major (later Lieutenant Colonel) Walter Dickens Daunt, Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General, was the son of Colonel John Charles Campbell Daunt who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the Indian Mutiny in 1857. He was part of a contingent of British and Indian Officers who attended the London Coronation of George V in 1911. Walter Daunt rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and retired from the Army in 1920. He died in 1943 at Winchester, Hampshire.

The regiment was founded as two irregular cavalry regiments in 1857, at the outset of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 by Henry Otway Mayne. It was known initially as Mayne's Horse and the 2nd regiment was known as Beatson's Horse.

During the 1903 Kitchener reorganisation of the Indian Army, the 1st Regiment became the 38th Regiment Central India Horse and the 2nd regiment became the 39th. In 1906, the regiments were renamed the 38th and 39th Prince of Wales's Own Central India Horse and in 1910 the 38th and 39th King George's Own Central India Horse. As of 1911 Daunt was in the 39th. The 39th remained in India during the First World War, stationed in Poona.
