Napoleon Bonaparte Medal Snuff Box. Marked to the ridged side as ARGENT, French for silver. The two halves unscrew. The original medal was issued in 1799.
The obverse with Napoleon's head facing left by Carlo Domenico Lorenzo Lavy with the words "BONAPARTE PIMVS CONSVL". The reverse with Hercules, his club and lion skin on the ground behind him, assisting Italy to her feet; in the background, winged Victory inscribes a shield.The wording around the reverse is "XII MVNITISSIMIS OPPIDIS VNA DIE AD DEDITIONEM COACTIS " (12 strong places compelled to surrender in one day). At the base of the reverse "RESPVBLICA CISALPINA RESTITVTA" (The Cisalpine Republic Restored).
