Rear-Admiral William Carnegie (1756-1831) GCB, 7th Earl of Northesk & 3rd in Command at The Battle of Trafalgar on HMS Britannia. A George IV Silver Teapot with a Remodelled Crest for Carnegie, Earls of Northesk. The teapot of squat form with an oriental figure as the finial and later embossed detail.

Provenance: from the family of the Earls of Northesk. The holder at the time of assay, in 1825, was Rear-Admiral William Carnegie, 7th Earl of Northesk. He served in the American Revolutionary War, French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, where he was 3rd in command at the Battle of Trafalgar on HMS Britannia. This is the remodelled crest associated with the arms of the Carnegie family, Earls of Northesk.

By October 1805 Carnegie was third in command of the Mediterranean Fleet, commanded by Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson. The Combined Fleet sailed on 18 October and the British Fleet came up with them on 21 October to fight what would become the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson looked to pierce the combined fleet with two columns and for this purpose Britannia was in the windward column led by Nelson in HMS VIctory.  HMS Britannia was a slow ship that did not sail well, and Nelson ordered Carnegie to 'assume a station as most convenient' during the attack, allowing him the best chance to reach the battle on time.

Hallmarked to the body and cover for London 1825 by George Burrows II.

Approximate weight is 376 grams or 12.0 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions are 22 cm handle to spout end length, 14 cm width and 10 cm height.

In good condition with age related surface wear. The embossed detail, a later Victorian addition.
