An Edwardian Silver Plated Box Presented to 'The Right Rev Bishop Taylor Smith CVO DD Chaplain General to HM Forces'. He was the Chaplain-General throughout the First World War.

John Taylor-Smith (1860 - 1938) was an Anglican Bishop and military chaplain. He was Chaplain-General to the Armed Forces from 1st November 1901(the date of this inscription) until his retirement in 1925. In 1914 there were 120 military chaplains and this had grown to 3500 by 1918. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity in 1897 and was Honorary Chaplain to Queen Victoria from 1896 to 1901. He was appointed a Companion of the Royal Victorian Order in 1906, a Companion of the Order of the Bath in 1921 and created a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1925. 

Of curved rectangular form with a monogram of SMR to the cover. The base with the inscription dated 1st November 1901.

In very good condition with no dents, creases or repairs. The box smiling slightly to one side when closed. 

Approximate weight is 235 grams.

Approximate dimensions are 13.5 cm length, 7.8 cm width and 3.7 cm depth.
