The Treaty of Paris, signed on May 30th 1814, ended hostilities between France and the Sixth Coalition during the Napoleonic Wars. By 1814 France had suffered decisive military defeats at the hands of the Sixth Coalition, comprising Great Britain, Russia, Austria, Prussia, and their allies. Allied forces entered Paris in March 1814, forcing Napoleon to abdicate under the terms later formalised in the Treaty of Fontainebleau. An armistice followed in April 1814, signed between Charles X of France and the Allied powers. This armistice paved the way for formal peace negotiations.
