A George I Set of Twelve Silver Tablespoons. Hanoverian pattern with rat tail heel, each engraved with a contemporaneous crest of a sea-lion sejant each surmounted by an Earl’s coronet.

Thomas Tufton was a Captain in the Troop of Horse and in 1685 he gained the rank of Colonel in the 5th Regiment of Horse. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Cumberland and Westmorland and as a Privy Counsellor. A professional hearaldry report accompanies this item which confirms the crest and coronet details as being for Thomas Tufton.

Distorted bottom struck hallmarks for London 1718 & 1722, all by Samuel Hitchcock. All hallmarks have been clearly photographed.

Approximate total weight of all twelve spoons is 844 grams or 27.1 troy ounces.

Approximate dimensions of one spoon are 20.8 cm length and 4 cm bowl width.

In good condition with no dents or creases. There is some age related clouding of the silver, as well as wear to the bowl tips and sides, as per the photos.
